What it's for

A bumper sticker is a small sign that travels: it rides around town on supporters' cars for months, in front of everyone in traffic. Campaigns hand them out at events, schools and booster clubs sell them as fundraisers, fire companies and nonprofits give them to donors, and businesses give them to customers who like to show where they shop. Size and material

Bumper stickers are printed in full color on weatherproof vinyl with a protective laminate, cut with rounded corners. Choose 11.5 by 3 inches, the standard bumper sticker size, or 10 by 3 inches. Design yours online from a bumper sticker template, or upload your own file.

The standard size, and when to go smaller

11.5 by 3 inches is the size most people picture: long enough for a name or a short slogan in big letters. The 10 by 3 inch size fits bumpers and tailgates with less flat space, and costs a little less each. Measure the spot where your supporters are likely to put it; flat, smooth areas work best.

What they are made of

Bumper stickers are printed in full color on weatherproof vinyl, with a clear protective laminate over the print. Choose strong contrast, such as white on navy or black on yellow, since the sticker is read from a car length away, often in motion.

Short and readable

The best bumper stickers say one to four words, with letters an inch and a half to two inches tall. Put the name or the message large, a second line smaller, and skip the fine print; a website can go at the bottom in small letters for people stopped behind you at a light.

For campaigns, schools and businesses

The price of each sticker drops as the quantity goes up, so order for the whole season at once. For a fundraiser, count your members or families and add extras for events. If you need several designs, one per candidate or one per team, add each design to the cart as its own line.
