Grand opening, coming soon and now open banners on 13 oz or 15 oz vinyl, hemmed and grommeted, in the sizes storefronts use.
What it's for
A grand opening banner tells everyone driving past that you are open for business and gives them a reason to stop in this week. Shops, restaurants, salons, gyms, dental offices, auto shops and new branches hang one over the door, across the front of the building or along the fence for the first weeks they are open. We will help you choose the size for the spot, lay out the words so they read from the road, and check the proof with you before it prints.
Sizes, materials and finishing
Grand opening banners are printed in full color on 13 oz vinyl, or heavier 15 oz vinyl for a banner that stays up longer, in 3 by 6, 3 by 8, 3 by 10 or 4 by 8 feet. Every banner is hemmed around the edges, with grommets in the corners and along the sides for hanging. Pole pockets, rope and wind slits are options in the designer. Design yours online from a grand opening template, or upload your own file.
Make the opening impossible to miss
Size the banner for the distance people read it from. A 3 by 6 foot banner reads across a parking lot; a 3 by 10 foot banner fits over a storefront door and reads from the road; a 4 by 8 foot banner on a building or a fence reads from farther still. Keep it to GRAND OPENING, your business name and one line, such as the date, "Now open" or an opening special, in letters as tall as the banner allows.
Town sign rules and how long it may stay
Most towns treat a grand opening banner as a temporary sign. Many set a limit on its size, on how long it may stay up (often a few weeks) and on how far from the business it may hang, and some ask for a permit that shows the dates. Rules differ from town to town, so call your town's building or zoning office before you order, and plan to take the banner down on time.
Finishing: grommets, pole pockets and wind slits
Hemmed edges with grommets are standard and suit most banners tied to a building, a railing or a fence. Pole pockets, sewn sleeves at the top and bottom, suit a banner hung from poles or a frame. On a fence or anywhere windy, add wind slits, small cuts that let air through, or choose mesh, so the banner does not act like a sail.
Everything else for opening day
A banner works best with a few helpers: feather flags at the curb, an A-frame by the door, a step and repeat for ribbon cutting photos, flyers for the counter and EDDM postcards to invite every home nearby. The New Business Starter Kit bundles cards, signs, stickers and a banner in one order.
After the opening
When the grand opening is over, a second banner that says NOW OPEN, with your hours or your website, keeps working. If you are not open yet, a COMING SOON banner builds interest while the work goes on inside. Order both at once and swap them on the day.
How ordering works
Design it online: start from one of our templates or your own logo, or upload a print-ready file in the designer, and see the price for every quantity as you go. You can order just one, and the price of each drops as you order more. We check every file and send a proof within 1 business day, and nothing is made until you approve it. It is ready to pick up or ships 2 to 4 business days after you approve the proof. Need it sooner? Rush is ready 1 to 2 business days after you approve your proof, for 75% more. It still comes with a proof. See how rush printing works. Pick it up free at our Hopewell Junction shop, or we ship it anywhere in the US.
Questions about grand opening banners
Which banner size reads from the road?
For a storefront seen from a busy road, a 3 by 10 or 4 by 8 foot banner with letters 10 inches tall or more. A 3 by 6 foot banner suits a door, a window or a spot people walk past.
Does my town have to approve a grand opening banner?
It depends on your town. Many treat grand opening banners as temporary signs with limits on size and time, and some require a permit. Call your town's building or zoning office before you hang it.
Grommets or pole pockets?
Grommets if you will tie the banner to a building, a railing or a fence. Pole pockets if it will hang from poles or slide onto a frame.
Can we use the banner again after the opening?
Yes. Vinyl banners are made for outdoor use, so roll it up, store it dry and bring it out for an anniversary sale. Choose 15 oz vinyl if it will spend months outside.
Can you make a "coming soon" banner first?
Yes. Order a COMING SOON banner for while you are getting ready, and the GRAND OPENING banner to swap in on the day, in the same colors.
Can the banner be ready for a set opening date?
Tell us the date. The designer shows when your banner will be ready before you order, rush production is available, and we will let you know right away if the timing is tight.

I would recommend Hudson Valley Promos to anyone looking for custom embroidery work. I went here with an idea for Christmas presents for my family. Zach not only created the idea, but was so friendly and professional throughout the process. I will definitely be going to Hudson Valley Promos again for some more custom work. Please consider using this local shop because you will not be disappointed. Thanks, Zach!
Zack and Bruce took care of me like I was a 15 year old client. I cannot thank them enough for their help and quick turnaround. Products came out perfect. Truly made my day.
Zack is truly the best! I get 100% of my business stationary and apparel through hvpromos. Quality and turn around time is top notch. I won’t go anywhere else.
Incredible. Zack was first class from inception to completion. I needed four shirts embroidered for a golf outing that was less than a week away. The communication, responsiveness, and guidance were top notch. The shirts came out beautifully and I could not be happier. Highly recommend Zack and his team for all your needs. Thank you!
