What it's for

A flyer is the fastest way to put one clear message in someone's hand: an event on a community board, a special at the counter, a service left with a customer after a visit. A sell sheet does the same job for a business selling to other businesses: one page that says what you make, what it does and how to order it, handed across a table at a meeting or a trade show, or left behind after a sales call. Both come off the same glossy sheet, so this is one page for both. Tell us what the piece has to do and we will help you pick the size and set it up so it prints the way you pictured it.

Paper, sizes and printing

Flyers and sell sheets are printed in full color on a smooth paper with more weight than an office sheet, glossy for bright photos or matte for easy reading, on one side or both. Choose 8.5 by 11 inches, the letter size that fits a folder or a rack; 5.5 by 8.5 inches, half a letter sheet, for handouts and bag stuffers; 11 by 17 inches, big enough to hang as a small poster; 8.5 by 14 inches, legal size, for a full menu or price list; or 3.5 by 8.5 inches, a slim flyer for racks, counters and mailbox inserts. They are trimmed flat, with no fold, and colors can run right off the edge. Design yours online from a template, or upload a print-ready file, and we check it before anything prints.

What a sell sheet does, and what goes on it

A good sell sheet answers the questions a buyer asks in the first minute. Start with a headline that names the product or service and the problem it solves. Add a photo, three to five short points about what makes it worth buying, the specifications a purchasing manager needs (sizes, models, materials, lead times), and a clear next step: a phone number, an email, a website and a QR code that goes straight to the order page. Put your logo and contact details at the bottom of every sheet, and use the back for a product list, a price sheet you update each season, or a short customer story.

Flyers people keep

The flyers that get read are simple: one message, a date if there is one, and a way to act on it. Post the 8.5 by 11 on a library, church or grocery store board, stack the 5.5 by 8.5 on a counter or tuck it into every bag that leaves your shop, and hang the 11 by 17 in a window or on an easel where it can be read from a few steps away. For a fundraiser, a class schedule, a yard sale or a new menu, print on both sides and put the details on the back so the front can stay big and bold.

Glossy flyers or color copies

Not every job needs gloss. For a small number of sheets today, a handout for a meeting this afternoon, or anything you plan to write on, our color copies on bond paper are the quicker, lighter choice, and rush can have them ready the same day. When the piece represents your business, goes out in quantity or has photos that need to look sharp, the glossy flyer is worth the few extra days. If you are not sure which fits your deadline, call us and we will tell you right away.

Designing for print

Keep words and logos a quarter inch inside the edge, and let background colors and photos run an eighth of an inch past it so the trim leaves no white line. Photos look best at 300 pixels per inch at the size they print; a picture pulled from a website usually looks soft on paper. A QR code should be at least about an inch square, dark on a light background, with a short web address printed beside it for people who would rather type. Our artwork guide covers file types and colors, and the designer flags anything that might not print well before you order.

Need it folded, mailed or on card stock?

A flyer here is a flat sheet. For a piece that folds into three panels, see tri-fold brochures. For a thicker card that stands in a rack, see palm cards and rack cards. To put a postcard in every mailbox on the routes you choose, see EDDM postcards, and for a menu that lives on the table, see menus.

How ordering works

Design it online: start from one of our templates or your own logo, or upload a print-ready file in the designer, and see the price for every quantity as you go. The price is for the whole order, from 50, and the more you order, the less each one costs. We check every file and send a proof within 1 business day, and nothing is made until you approve it. It is ready to pick up or ships 4 to 5 business days after you approve the proof. Rush orders are printed the next business day, with no separate proof: the design on your screen is what prints. See how rush printing works. Pick it up free at our Hopewell Junction shop, or we ship it anywhere in the US.

Questions about flyers & sell sheets

What is the difference between a flyer and a sell sheet?

They are printed the same way; the difference is the reader. A flyer speaks to the public about an event, a sale or a service. A sell sheet speaks to a business buyer about a product, with the details and specifications they need to order it.

What size is a standard flyer?

In the United States it is 8.5 by 11 inches, the size of a sheet of letter paper. Half that size, 5.5 by 8.5, is popular for handouts, and 11 by 17 works as a small poster. Legal size, 8.5 by 14, holds a full menu or schedule, and 3.5 by 8.5 is a slim flyer that fits a rack.

Can you fold my flyers?

The flyers on this page are flat. If you want the sheet folded into three panels, order tri-fold brochures, which are printed on the same kind of gloss paper and folded for you.

Can I get a small number today?

For a handful of sheets on short notice, choose color copies, which are printed on bond paper and can often be ready the same day. Glossy flyers are printed in the business days the designer shows, counted from when you approve the proof, or the next business day with rush printing, which has no separate proof.

Can my flyer have a QR code that goes to my website?

Yes. Add one in the designer, point it at the page you want people to land on, and keep it at least about an inch square with clear space around it. Test it with your own phone on the proof.

Should I print on one side or both?

One side is right for anything posted on a board or a wall. Both sides earn their keep on handouts and sell sheets: the front sells, and the back holds the details, a map, a product list or a coupon.
