Spot UV Business Cards

What it's for

Spot UV business cards put a clear, raised gloss on the parts of your design you choose, your logo, your name or a pattern, over a soft matte laminated card. The marked parts catch the light and the fingertips, and the rest of the card stays velvety. It is the modern, understated finish: designers, architects, photographers, salons, consultants and brands with a bold logo use it, often black on black. The card, the gloss and the printing

Spot UV business cards are 3.5 by 2 inches on a thick 16 pt card laminated on both sides, matte or soft touch (18 pt in all), with square corners or 1/4 inch rounded corners, printed in full color. Spot UV goes on the front, or on the front and back when you print both sides. They are made in 100, 250, 500, 750, 1,000, 2,500 or 5,000 and printed in 4 to 5 business days after you approve your proof (5 to 6 with rounded corners). What spot UV looks like

Spot UV is a clear coating cured with ultraviolet light, laid only where you mark it. Those parts shine and feel slightly raised against the matte card. The colors under it print exactly as you design them: a black logo marked spot UV becomes a shiny black logo, which is the favorite tone on tone look on a dark card.

Designs that suit it

Bold logos, shapes, patterns and photos show spot UV best, especially on dark cards. It is not for small type: the gloss can sit up to about 1/8 inch off the print, so keep marked words at 10 point or larger (8 point at the very least), give marks a little room, and keep spot UV about 0.2 inch (5 mm) in from the edges.

Matte or soft touch

Both are laminated on both sides. Matte is smooth with no glare; soft touch feels velvety, so the gloss stands out even more against it. Rounded corners come with either.

Spot UV or foil?

Spot UV keeps your colors and adds shine and texture. Foil business cards replace the marked parts with gold or silver metal, for a card that flashes. For a subtle, modern card, spot UV.

The price is for the whole order, from 100, and the more you order, the less each one costs. We check every file and send a proof within 1 business day, and nothing is made until you approve it.
