Yard Sign Sizes: the Standard Size and 17 Others
The standard yard sign is 24" x 18", and it's the right size more often than not. But we print 18 sizes, from small directional signs to ones as big as a sheet of plywood cut in half. Here they all are, drawn to scale, with what each one is for and what it costs.
The standard size: 24" x 18"
The standard yard sign is 24" x 18". Some printers write it 18" x 24": it's the same sign, standing tall instead of wide. It became the standard because it fits a standard H-stake, cuts cleanly from a sheet of coroplast, and holds a few big words that read from the street.
One 24" x 18" sign printed in full color on one side is $13.99, or $15.99 printed on both sides. Ten are $74.99 and a hundred are $474.99, so the price per sign drops quickly as you order more.
All 18 sizes, drawn to scale
Prices are the order total for signs printed in full color on one side of 4mm coroplast. Both sides, heavier board, H-stakes and grommets are priced in the designer as you choose them.

A sign made for H-stakes is printed with its flutes running up and down so the stake slides in, and on some sizes that costs a little more. The designer shows the price either way.
Which size for what
- Elections and campaigns. 24" x 18" printed on both sides is the classic campaign sign, and 18" x 12" costs less when you need a lot of them. See political campaign signs, with H-stakes and room for a paid-for line.
- Real estate and open houses. Riders, the narrow 24" x 6", 32" x 6" and 36" x 6" signs, add a line like Open House or Sold to a bigger sign. See open house signs and real estate riders.
- Job sites and property. 24" x 18" or 24" x 24" on heavier 6, 8 or 10mm board stays flat and stays up longer. See heavy-duty coroplast signs.
- Directions and parking at events. The small sizes, 12" x 12", 16" x 12", 18" x 12" and 24" x 12", hold an arrow and a few words, and cost the least.
- Grand openings, hiring and road frontage. 24" x 36" or one of the large sizes, up to 48" x 48", read from a passing car. See now hiring signs.
- Graduations and celebrations. 24" x 18" or 24" x 24", with a photo if you like. See graduation yard signs.
H-stakes, and hanging the big ones
An H-stake is shaped like an H: its two top prongs slide up into the sign's flutes and its legs push into the ground. We sell H-stakes for $1.50 each, one a sign, for the 4mm signs a stake holds: 24 x 6, 12 x 12, 16 x 12, 32 x 6, 18 x 12, 36 x 6, 24 x 12, 24 x 18, 36 x 12, 24 x 24, 32 x 24 and 24 x 36.
Signs bigger than that, and the heavier 6, 8 and 10mm boards, don't take our H-stakes. Hang them by grommets in the top 2 or all 4 corners on a fence, a wall or a frame, or fix them to posts.
Pixel sizes for designers
Making your sign in Canva or another design app? Set a custom size in pixels. Our designer checks every file against the sign's size and wants at least 150 pixels per inch for a sign read from a few feet away, plus 1/8 inch of background past every edge, the bleed, so no white shows after cutting. Keep words and logos at least 1/2 inch inside the edge.
| Sign | File size with bleed | Pixels at 150 per inch |
|---|---|---|
| 12" x 12" | 12 1/4" x 12 1/4" | 1,838 x 1,838 |

A vector PDF, AI, EPS or SVG file is sharp at any size. If a picture in your file is too small for the sign, the designer tells you before you order. More in getting your artwork right.
How big should the letters be?
Allow one inch of letter height for every 10 feet the sign is read from. A yard sign by the road, read by drivers, wants letters 4 to 6 inches tall for its one or two key words, so keep the message short: a name, one offer and one way to reach you. The full table is in how big should the sign be?
Ordering yard signs
Every size starts at one sign, and the price per sign drops as you order more (see yard sign prices by size and quantity). Design it online in the yard sign designer, with basic design and setup included, or upload your own file, and you approve a proof before anything is printed. The designer shows the day your signs are ready to pick up free at our Hopewell Junction shop, or ship to you. Need them fast? Rush prints them the next business day, wherever your size and quantity allow it, for an order placed by 11 AM Eastern on a business day.
Yard sign size questions
What is the standard yard sign size?
24" x 18", also written 18" x 24": the same sign, wide or tall. It fits a standard H-stake and holds a few big words that read from the street. One printed on one side is $13.99.
What size is a real estate rider?
Riders are the narrow signs that hang on or under a bigger sign. We print them at 24" x 6", 32" x 6" and 36" x 6", from one sign.
Do big signs need two stakes?
Our H-stakes go one to a sign, for 4mm signs up to 36 inches on the long side and 24 on the short side. Bigger signs and the heavier boards hang by grommets on a fence, a wall or a frame instead.
Can I order just one yard sign?
Yes. Every size starts at one sign, and the price per sign drops as you order more.
What resolution should my yard sign file be?
At least 150 pixels per inch at full size, with 1/8 inch of bleed on every side: for a 24" x 18" sign that's 3,638 x 2,738 pixels. A vector file is sharp at any size.
