What it's for

Candle, jar and bottle labels are for makers: candle and wax melt makers, beekeepers, jam and pickle makers, hot sauce and syrup producers, soap and skincare makers, and the farm stands and shops that sell their goods. Labels on a roll go on quickly by hand, look the same on every jar, and hold the information your customers and the stores that carry you expect. Tell us what you make and we will help you pick a size and material, set up the label and check it on the proof before it prints.

Sizes, materials and rolls

These labels are printed in full color on rolls, cut to shape and ready to peel, from 25 labels. Popular sizes are a 2 inch circle for lids and tins, 3 by 2 inches for the front of a jar, and 4 by 3 inches for bottles, and any size up to 12 inches is available. Choose white film for anything handled, chilled or washed; clear film for glass, so the jar or the candle shows through; or white paper for dry goods. We fill each roll the way that costs least, or choose rolls of 50 to 2,500 labels. Design your labels online. For a small first batch, order cut stickers from the second price table on this page.

Labels for makers

A good label does two jobs at once: it sells the product on the shelf and it carries the facts a buyer needs. The front holds your brand, the product name, the scent or flavor and the net weight; the side or back holds the ingredients or the warning, your name and town, and your website. The templates are set up this way for candles, candle tins, honey, jam, maple syrup, sauces, cold brew, soap and lotion.

Rolls or cut stickers

Roll labels are priced for quantity: the price of each label falls sharply as the order grows, which suits a maker who labels hundreds of jars a season. For a first run of a new scent, a craft fair or a test batch of 25 or 50, cut stickers from our sticker designer cost far less for the order, in a 2 inch circle or a 3 by 2 inch rectangle. Start with stickers, then move to rolls once the design and the demand are settled.

Materials for glass, wax, oil and the fridge

White film is the all-rounder: it resists water, oil and handling, and suits sauces, soaps and anything that goes in the fridge. Clear film looks printed right on the glass and suits candles in clear jars; add white ink and we print white under your art, so the colors stay bright and anything white in your design prints white. Freezer-grade film holds on frozen and chilled jars. White paper is a good, lower cost choice for dry goods such as tea, spices and baked goods kept indoors.

What to put on the label

Candle makers commonly print a fire safety warning based on the industry standard ASTM F2058: the safety alert symbol and WARNING, then "Burn within sight", "Keep away from things that catch fire" and "Keep away from children and pets". Food makers list the product name, the net weight in the bottom part of the front panel, the ingredients, the allergens and the maker's name and address. Our candle, jar and bottle templates include these lines as a starting point. We print what you send; check the rules that apply to your product with your own advisor, as this is not legal advice.

Sizes that fit common jars

A 2 inch circle fits the lid of most jelly jars, candle tins and wide-mouth jars. A 3 by 2 inch label fits the front of an 8 oz jar or candle tumbler. A 4 by 3 inch label suits a bottle or a larger jar. Measure the flat part of your container, the area between the curve at the top and the curve at the bottom, and choose a label a little smaller than that.

How ordering works

Design it online: start from one of our templates or your own logo, or upload a print-ready file in the designer, and see the price for every quantity as you go. The price of each drops as you order more, from 100. We check every file and send a proof within 1 business day, and nothing is made until you approve it. It is ready to pick up or ships 2 to 4 business days after you approve the proof. Pick it up free at our Hopewell Junction shop, or we ship it anywhere in the US.

Questions about candle, jar & bottle labels

How do I measure a candle jar for a label?

Measure the flat band of the glass between the curves at the top and the bottom, and choose a label a little smaller. On most 8 oz candle tumblers, a 3 by 2 inch label fits the front and a 2 inch circle fits the lid.

Clear or white on glass?

Clear film looks printed on the glass and lets the candle or the product show through; on clear, anything white in your design needs white ink to print. White film makes colors brightest and hides what is behind the label.

Will the label peel from the candle's heat?

Put the label below the rim, where the glass stays cooler, or on the lid. Film stands up to a warm jar better than paper. Burn one test candle with its label before a large order.

Is the fire safety warning on the candle templates?

Yes. The candle jar, tin and bottom label templates include a warning block based on ASTM F2058 as a starting point; the small 2 inch lid is meant to go with one of them. Check the wording that applies to your candles before you approve the proof.

How many labels are on a roll?

We fill each roll the way that costs least, unless you choose rolls of 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000 or 2,500 labels in the designer. Smaller rolls are easy to split up for labeling by hand.

Can I try a small batch first?

Yes. For 25 or 50 labels, order cut stickers from the second price table on this page; they cost far less for a small order than a roll.
