What it's for

Raised ink business cards are the classic card people run a thumb across. The ink rises as it is printed, so your name, your logo and your phone number stand up from the card with a texture you can feel, the look of fine engraved stationery at a business card price. Attorneys, accountants, financial advisors, real estate brokers, physicians and anyone whose card should say established and trustworthy choose raised ink. We look over every file before it prints, and we are happy to help you choose the paper and the ink. See every finish on the specialty printing page.

The card, the paper and the ink

Raised ink business cards are 3.5 by 2 inches, horizontal or vertical, printed on the front only. Choose 110 lb Classic Crest Solar White, a smooth, bright white premium card, or a thick 16 pt uncoated card. The ink is black, one color, two colors or full color, at one price for one color and full color. Order 250 to 25,000 cards. Design yours online: start from one of our business card templates, pick your ink, and the designer keeps every color in your design to the inks you chose, so what you see is what is printed.

Why raised ink

A raised card feels finished the moment it is in someone's hand. The texture catches the light on a bright white card, and the words read crisp and dark. It is a quiet, traditional look that never goes out of style, and it costs far less than engraving or letterpress.

Which paper to choose

Classic Crest Solar White is our premium card: very smooth and very white, so the raised ink stands out sharply. The 16 pt uncoated card is thicker, with a soft natural feel that takes a pen well. Both are made for raised ink.

Designing for raised ink

Raised ink loves clean type and simple logos. Keep words 7 pt or larger and lines a full point or more, since very fine lines fill in as the ink rises, and keep your words and logo 1/8 inch inside the edge. Large solid areas are best left to flat printing. Choose one or two colors to match your brand, or black for the timeless look. Not sure? Have our designer lay it out, or call us and we will talk it through.

Questions about raised ink business cards

Is raised ink the same as engraving?

It has the same raised feel and look at a much lower price. Engraving presses the ink into the paper with a metal plate; raised ink rises as it is printed. Most people cannot tell them apart by touch.

Can I print the back too?

Raised ink cards are printed on the front only. The back stays plain white, which is the classic look.

How many do I have to order?

250 cards at the least, and up to 25,000. The more you order, the less each card costs.
