Sale banners that read from the road
Make the offer the biggest thing on the banner, then say what it covers and when it ends: "20% off storewide, ends Saturday, October 31". A 3 × 6 ft banner carries a 10 inch number, which reads from across a parking lot. Clearance, buy one get one and store closing designs follow the same order.
Store closing and going out of business sales need a license from your town or city in New York before the banner goes up.
The retail calendar
- November: Black Friday on the 27th and Small Business Saturday on the 28th, holiday sale weekends, gift cards available.
- Winter: winter clearance, holiday gift sale, photos with Santa.
- Spring and summer: Memorial Day weekend and 4th of July sales, sidewalk sales.
- August: back to school.
Every day
Grand opening, now open, coming soon, new arrivals, customer appreciation day and anniversary sale banners carry your name and brand colors. Shop local and "thank you for shopping local" suit Main Street shops from Beacon to Rhinebeck. Many towns allow temporary banners only for a set number of days a year, so plan which ones get the prime spot.
