Contractor truck and car magnet templates

Neighbors read your truck door all day while you work. These 18 magnets are drawn for the trades, from heating and cooling, electricians and plowing to septic, well drilling, pest control, cleaning and moving, each with room for the numbers the law asks for.

Every one opens in the designer ready to edit: your words, your colors, your logo.

How a door magnet reads

Company name biggest, one line of services, the phone at 2 inches or taller, then a narrow strip for the license and, on the truck designs, USDOT. The heating and cooling magnet splits red and blue; the electrician's is black and yellow.

The numbers a work truck carries

  • USDOT: a business vehicle over 10,000 pounds shows its legal name and USDOT number on both sides, and a magnet may carry them. Delete the strip for a lighter truck.
  • Home improvement license: Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Nassau, Suffolk and New York City want the number in advertising, and a door magnet counts. Westchester also wants your name and address on both sides of a truck parked at the job, legible from 50 feet.
  • Movers: the address and NYSDOT certificate number go in every ad; interstate movers add "U.S. DOT No." and the number, in that form. Never "all loads insured".
  • Well drillers: the NYSDEC registration number goes on the rig; that design has a line for it.
  • Electricians: Ulster County asks master electricians to list the license number in each ad. Orange County's electrical law has a similar line; confirm its current text with the county.

Room for the decals you are issued

A magnet should never cover or imitate the stickers the government issues. Putnam's registration sticker goes on the driver's side rear bumper, Rockland issues county license decals, Orange and Ulster issue them to electricians, and pest control and lawn applicators carry two numbered DEC stickers. The pest control magnet leaves room for them.

Sizes and ordering

24" × 12" fits most pickup and box truck doors with room for a full-size USDOT strip; 18" × 12" suits car and van doors. Magnets hold only to steel, so test aluminum or fiberglass panels with a fridge magnet first. No minimum, ready in 2 to 4 business days, with free pickup in Hopewell Junction for crews across Dutchess, Putnam, Orange and Ulster.

From the shop: With more than one truck, put the truck number small in a corner of each magnet, so every pair goes back on the right truck after a car wash.

Questions about contractors car magnets

Rather ask us? 845-202-7600 Mon to Fri 10am to 6pm, Sat 12:30pm to 4:30pm

Can a magnet carry my USDOT number?

Yes. Federal rules allow a removable sign. Put it on both sides of the power unit, not the trailer, with numbers at least 2 inches high (3 inches in New York City) that contrast with the truck.

Does my license number go on a truck magnet?

In Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Nassau, Suffolk and New York City, yes: list a number for each one you work in. We found no county home improvement license in Dutchess, Orange or Ulster, but some towns register contractors, so check locally.

Should my magnet say "licensed and insured"?

Only if you are both. No template prints it by default, and the tree service design keeps "fully insured" as a line you can delete.
