Where contractors use an A-frame
- Outside a job on a busy street: "pardon our dust, improvements in progress by Johnson Contracting" keeps a business's customers patient and names you to everyone walking by.
- At a showroom or supply counter: free estimates, now scheduling spring projects.
- At home shows and fairs: your trade, the phone and a QR code for booking.
What to say
Lead with the offer or the trade in the top third, put the company name in the middle, and the phone at the bottom with the license line. Say "free estimates" only when they really are free. "Pardon our dust" and "work in progress" are plain rectangles in yellow and black, never styled like a construction zone traffic sign.
License numbers
Advertising in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Nassau, Suffolk and New York City must carry your home improvement license number, and a sidewalk sign counts. The templates include a "Lic. #" line; list one for each county you work in.
