When you sell what you bake
New York lets home processors sell some foods, such as jams, cookies, breads and granola, with a label that shows the name, the ingredients by weight, the allergens, the net weight, your name and full address, and a line such as "Made in a Home Kitchen" at 1/16 inch or larger. The jam, cookie and bread templates hold all of it, and the ingredient panel works as a back label for anything else. These foods are sold within New York only; check with Agriculture and Markets which products qualify before your first sale.
Allergens, spelled out
The cookie label sets CONTAINS: WHEAT, MILK, EGGS, SOY in red below the ingredients, where a parent scanning a table looks first. The allergens to name are milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame. Even on a gift, a clear allergen line is a kindness.
Return address labels
Three small designs: a monogram in a ring beside the family name, a serif name over the street and town for wedding and holiday envelopes, and a simple layout with a small mark. Every line is 8 point or larger, the floor in the postal rules, with the name, street, city, state and ZIP.
Dates and thank yous
- Made on, best by: two lines to date by hand, for the freezer, the fridge and food gifts. White gloss paper is not made for writing, so choose another stock.
- Thank you seal: a heart and a script thank you in yellow on purple, for favor bags, shower gifts and notes.
The smallest order is 25 labels in full color, ready about 2 to 4 business days after you approve the proof, to pick up at our shop or shipped to your door.
From the shop: Order return address labels a few weeks before the holiday cards or the invitations go out. A relaxed schedule leaves time to catch a typo on the proof.
