Hours and closings
The most useful seasonal insert is the plainest: holiday hours, winter hours, or "closed Labor Day". Put the dates with their weekdays, and set it out a week ahead so regulars see it twice. It goes back in the closet until next year.
Sales and events
- November: Black Friday on the 27th, holiday gift sale, gift cards available.
- December: photos with Santa, New Year's Eve party.
- October: Halloween party, trunk or treat, fall fest, fall sale.
- The rest of the year: Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Memorial Day weekend and 4th of July sales, seasonal help wanted.
Keep a set
Seasonal inserts are cheap to keep: order the set once, store them flat, and slide in the right one. Holiday cartoon characters are trademarked, so the templates stick to pumpkins, snowflakes, hearts and shamrocks.
From the shop: Write the season on the back of each insert in marker and keep them flat in a closet. Swapping a sign takes a minute when you can find the right one.
