POSTED land in New York
Under ECL 11-2111, a POSTED sign is at least 11 by 11 inches, with the statement (the word POSTED, or a warning against entry) covering at least 80 square inches, and the name and address of the owner or the person authorized to post. A 12" × 12" aluminum sign meets it and outlasts paper and plastic. Signs go up no more than 660 feet apart along the boundary and on each side of each corner, and illegible ones are replaced each year.
Choose a POSTED template with the owner printed, or a write-on owner panel for a hunting club or a lease.
Parking
- No parking, tow-away: with lines for the towing company and phone. Tow sign rules are local, so check what your town asks for.
- Reserved parking for customers, visitors, managers or 15-minute pickup; loading zone; EV charging.
- Private road and private drive: "residents and guests only, no thru traffic", in black on white or brown and white, not the green of a street name sign.
Warnings that stay legal
New York bans private signs that imitate official traffic signs, so there are no red octagons or yellow diamonds here: "please drive slowly" and "slow, children at play" are friendly rectangles. Video surveillance belongs on a property only if it is true, and a no dumping sign cites a town code only when you supply the real one.
