Traffic on school grounds
Car line, bus loop and parent pick-up signs point drivers the right way twice a day, every school day, so they need to be permanent and plain. They are rectangles in blue and white or school colors, never the shapes of official traffic signs, and they are meant for school property. An 18" × 24" or 24" × 36" sign on a post reads from a moving car.
Visitors and parking
- Visitors must report to the main office, with an arrow, at every entrance.
- Visitor parking near the office door.
- Reserved for the student of the month: the parking spot the whole school wants, with a changeable name line.
- Home of the team for the gym or the field entrance.
Why aluminum
School signs are posted for years and take the weather, the plows and the occasional bus mirror. .040 aluminum is the standard for a sign on a post; .080 for large signs in windy spots. Print both sides for a sign read from two directions.
From the shop: Walk the car line at dismissal with the staff who run it, and put a sign wherever they point. That is where drivers get confused.
