POSTED signs in New York
To post land against hunting, fishing, trapping or trespassing under the Environmental Conservation Law, a sign must be at least 11 by 11 inches, carry the word POSTED (or a warning against entry) in a statement covering at least 80 square inches, and give the name and address of the owner or whoever is authorized to post. Signs go no more than 660 feet apart along the boundary, with at least one on each side and each corner, and illegible ones are replaced yearly.
There are three POSTED templates: orange with the owner printed, yellow with a write-on owner panel, and a black header style.
Not a traffic sign
New York bans private signs that imitate official traffic signs. So these are rectangles in plain colors: "please drive slowly", "slow, children at play" and "drive slowly, children and pets", never a yellow diamond or a red octagon. A no parking sign can name the towing company and phone; many towns set their own rules for tow-away signs, so check yours.
Yard sign or aluminum?
Corrugated plastic is fine for a season: a contractor's lot, an event, a new driveway. For a sign that stays up for years, such as POSTED land, a private road or no trespassing on a building, choose aluminum; these same designs are on our aluminum sign templates.
