Plan the set, not one sign
Walk the route a guest takes, from the main road to the door, and put a sign at every turn. Then order: event this way arrows (left, right, straight ahead), event parking, VIP and paid parking, restrooms, register here, and a welcome sign at the entrance. Use one color pair for every sign at the event so drivers learn to look for it.
- Runs and walks: 5K start, finish, mile markers, water station ahead, course arrows, turkey trot.
- Fairs and festivals: welcome to the festival, street fair, craft fair today, live music, chicken barbecue.
- Private events: wedding this way, just married, block party, reserved.
Dates, rain dates and permission
Put the date and time on anything that goes up before the day, and add a rain date for outdoor events. Place directional signs on private property with the owner's permission; course arrows on public roads go up under the town's event permit. In East Fishkill, event signs for nonprofits and homeowners may go up 14 days ahead and must come down within 48 hours after.
Sizes
24" × 18" for anything read from a car; the arrow should take up at least half the sign. 18" × 12" arrows work on walking routes and parking lots. Order a few spares: a sign always goes missing on event day.
