Signs that bring people in
- Openings: now open, grand opening, coming soon, and "closed for the season, see you in April" for seasonal stands.
- Specials: lunch special, Friday fish fry, wing night with the price huge, kids eat free, weekend brunch, and a write-on special for the one that changes daily.
- Takeout: curbside pickup, takeout call ahead, order here, we deliver, with the phone big enough to read from a parked car.
- Food trucks: here today, with room to name the stop.
Keep specials legal and honest
Drink promotions follow State Liquor Authority rules. "Happy hour, $2 off drafts" is fine; "bottomless", "all you can drink" and free drinks are not. Health claims and calorie counts belong on a sign only if you can back them up.
Where yard signs fit
Use 24" × 18" signs at the roadside and at a food truck's stop, and 18" × 12" for "curbside pickup" spots in the lot. For the sidewalk out front, an A-frame holds up better to foot traffic; for the building, a banner. Hiring signs name the role and the pay: "Now hiring line cooks, $18 to $22/hr".
From the shop: Order one spare of your busiest sign. Roadside signs get clipped by mowers and plows, and a spare in the back room means the special is never missing on a Friday.
