What to put on a hiring banner
NOW HIRING in the biggest type, the role, the pay range, and how to apply. Black on yellow is the most visible pairing on a building; red and white works too. A 3 × 8 ft banner carries a headline of about 12 inches, readable from across the lot, with room for a QR code by the door.
- Drivers wanted: CDL-A or Class B, local routes, $28 to $32/hr.
- Job fair: the date, the hours and the address.
- Signing bonus: the amount, the role and the terms, "paid after 90 days".
The pay rule in New York
Labor Law 194-b asks employers with four or more employees to disclose the pay or pay range when they advertise a specific job, and printed signs count. So each role banner carries a pay line. Hiring banners also avoid wording that points to age or another protected trait: "team member", not "young and energetic".
Keep it up all year
A generic "we're hiring, join our team" or "now hiring, inquire within" banner stays useful long after a single opening is filled; its pay line is yours to set to your range, change to "inquire within", or delete. Print the role-specific banners for the busy seasons, such as holiday retail in October and landscaping in March.
