Name the food
A food flag works when it names the food. PIZZA, COFFEE and ICE CREAM on flags at the curb cut do more than the restaurant's name, which people have not heard yet. A logo near the top ties it to you. The colors follow the appetite: red and white for pizza, espresso brown and cream for coffee, pastels for ice cream.
Where they go
- At the curb cut, a pair of flags either side of the entrance.
- At the drive-thru lane, "drive-thru open" pointing the way.
- At a seasonal stand, up on opening day and down when the season ends.
- At the chicken barbecue, on the lawn of the firehouse.
Check the rules
Many towns treat feather flags as temporary signs, with limits on how many and how long. Check with your town, keep flags on your own property, and out of the sightline of drivers pulling out.
From the shop: Bring flags in at night and in storms. They last far longer, and a flag out after closing tells drivers you are open when you are not.
