The retail calendar
- Opening week: the grand opening cards, with the date, the ribbon cutting and what is free that day.
- Slow months: a coupon or a storewide sale in January and late summer, when foot traffic dips.
- The holiday weekend: Black Friday is November 27, 2026, and Small Business Saturday is November 28; the black and gold card carries both days, the hours and a doorbuster.
- A move: the new address in full with a map pin, mailed to every customer you have.
In the bag and in the box
Some of the best cards never see a mailbox. Drop a thank you into every shopping bag: kraft with a handmade tag, a coral circle with a code for the next order, a white script on pink, or a teal badge that thanks people for shopping small. Tuck the order insert into each box you ship, with a QR code to your review page; it is how a small shop collects reviews without asking twice.
Make the offer easy to use
Print the code or the "bring this card" line where the cashier will see it, and say what the offer leaves out (gift cards, items already on sale) in one plain sentence. A card that fits the register drawer can wait there to be counted at the end of the month.
From the shop: Keep a few cards at the register. When someone asks about the sale, a card they can take home does more than an answer they will forget.
